Sunday morning football in the park?

Recommended Posts

We are a group of Gents from the East Dulwich area who play on Peckham Rye every Sunday morning. The game is generally between 6 and 9-a-side and of mixed ability (football and fitness!) and age range (from 25 to 55 year olds). If you miss that long lost feeling of running around a park chasing a football this could be the game for you!

We have bibs, balls, goals and a commitment to a casual Sunday morning of fun and fitness!

If you're interested then get in touch or just show up! We play every Sunday, meeting outside the cafe in Peckham Rye at 10am, kicking off at 10:30am and normally finishing before 12 so you've got the rest of your day to tell everyone how amazing your goal was!

We had a great game last week 7-a-side, the weather was great, the grass had been cut and the game was played with a wonderful spirit. To get out there and pretend you're playing in euro 2016 turn up this weekend and we'll welcome you with open arms, a bid and a ball!

Sunday - the best day of the week, because it's morning football time! Come to the park, get some fresh air (as fresh as you can get with a couple of main roads next to the park) run around with wild abandon and glee and let's play soccerball, whut, footieball, no football!

We're into September, if you fancy a game before the grass turns to mud then come on down at 10 outside the cafe in Peckham Rye Park - if you don't mind the mud/rain/snow, we play all through the winter season too! We'd play on Christmas too if certain people didn't think it was rude to all the guests - what, the food ain't ready till 3!

Get ready for Christmas... work off some weight by playing football in the park every Sunday starting tomorrow and you'll be able to eat to your hearts content and go back to your normal weight! A win for everyone! Then after Christmas you can keep playing and lose that weight again... 10am tomorrow... come along...!

Apologies for the lack of messages, January has always been lazy month! We however haven't been lazy and have been playing every weekend, apart from that one weekend, but the less about that the better!

It's been quite severely cold, but Sunday mornings have been suprisingly sunny and fun... after the frosty grass has thawed out!

So lets do this again this weekend and come down if you fancy a game!

@LadyDeliah We're still going strong and your partner is more than welcome to come and play = this weekend would be a great intro for the rest of the year!

    • Now a good curry…yummy… beats slaving over a hot stove, endless potatoes for roasties plus carrots and parsnip peeling..  Christmas pudding made with cream or brandy sauce. when one things about it, obscene the amount of food one consumes on the big day… and then the washing up…. Used to cook for 10 so do know what I am talking about…grant you, nice to have company and friendship but now reached the age when I am quite happy having a curry, wandering around in my PH’s all day and eating, watching, doing what I want when I want.. Think actually that Gail’s staff can’t say no not working… sacked I would think but equally catering for people who might be in Dulwich for the holidays and visiting and in an air b n b..  Put of interest, is this the only Gail’s opening? Or are they all opening? Plenty of other places open on the day… sure cafes in city are open…And of course, always MacDonalds..!!!
    • When I managed a large staff group, and workers were needed for Christmas day, there was always a queue of people wanting a shift, for many reasons.  Where is the problem-why is it shameful?
    • 🎄Are you flying solo for Xmas?   🎄Let’s be honest-it can be weird. But maybe it’s also a chance to just …chill.   🎄How are you planning to treat yourself and make the day feel good?   🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅All ideas welcome.    ✌️Drop yours below. 🎄🎄🎄
    • Until the licencing laws changed in the late eighties, pubs were only allowed to open Sunday hours on Christmas Day, so 12 'til 2, and the majority didn't open in the evening unless it was for a 'private party'. But that's another story. The landlord of my old local used to let everyone double or treble up at last orders so that you could avoid having to watch the Queen's Speech with your Nans at three o'clock. Dulwich Tandoori is open Christmas Day for those who don't fancy Gail's.  'Festive Flavours', apparently.
