I think you'll find builders are about to start work there!

So whilst the focus is on the vans, what do people think will happen when the flats are developed and sold? Is it all off road parking for the flats or will they too be competing for the finite spaces on the road?

Hi all

It does look like there will be 10 parking spaces within the development so hopefully our limited roadside parking spaces will not be further threatened.

The plans for 38 Barry Road are on Southwark Planning website.

I agree re the parking on public highway, the issue here is a planning one, and always has been. When they applied for chamge of use of their own site from business to residential, and started work on site they lost their previous use for van hire.

Barry's Off Licence where they have moved to is, presumably, A1 use only (retail shop). Dulwich Van Hire, as a car hire company, is sui generis. Barry's therfore have no planning permission (as far as I am aware they have not yet applied for a change of use to encompass the new van hire business?) to allow the van hire business to be run from their A1 premises.

The Planning Department should therefore enforce, or at least they shoud go through the correct procedure to apply for a change of use (of which neighbouring residents will be informed and able to object/appeal).

This was raised months ago, why are they only considering this now?

Hi Mellors,

Both types of enforcement have been involved for some time. The circumstances have kept changing and promises made and broken.

But its now clearly with Planning Enforcement and Environmental Enforcement are clear that they have no powers in this situation.

Hi it is Shine from Barrys.

Just to keep you updated, I am pleased to say Dulwich Van Hire have now gained access to parking bays for their vans in the car wash place in Tyrrell Road. Hopefully residents will only notice the odd van parked in the area on weekends as access to the car wash place in limited on weekends. I do monitor the situation on a daily basis, and will continue to do so. Thank you for your support.

    • What ever they decide I would have thought that the skate park would not be staying but really hope I am wrong as in my minds eye, I see the skate park as potential parking spaces after all if it is going to be community, flats, retail units, cafe, etc folks are going to want to have the parking availability - Amir like the parade of shops opposite. if the skate park goes then I think it is Dulwich Estate obligation to find another suitable area… a lot of community spirit and hard work went into developing the skate park and the youngsters should be very proud of what they have done  and achieved.
    • Hi all My car was stolen between 1.30pm-1.50pm today in SE22 East Dulwich in South East London. I have of course reported this to the police but not much is being done, so I thought I'd give this a shot. The registration is GM66YOV, though its possible the licence plate may have been changed by now. If you see it anywhere please contact me or the police. Thankyou!
