peckhamboy
Randomly found this article about ED - the only surprising thing about it is that it was written in 2001, rather than last week. SteveT
Is ED truly comparable with Stoke Newington? When I lived in North London SN was considered to be a dangerous area. ????
I think the article was written when ED still felt a bit more creative/alternative rather than the more Clapham escapee type feel it has now, although it still retians both and I'm not making any judgement. Just I think it's full of yuppie scum...er, joke. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10656-plus-ca-change/#findComment-311157 Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
When I moved to ED 9 years ago, I too had heard the Stokey comparisons. In fact we had been looking in Stokey for a good few months but couldn't find anywhere for our money. But having spent many a day/evening there it was fairly easy to see how those comparisons were made when we first walked up LLI'm broadly in agreement with quids statement too Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10656-plus-ca-change/#findComment-311160 Share on other sites
RosieH
As is Stokie these days. I think they outnumber us on the inordinately expensive baby shops too. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10656-plus-ca-change/#findComment-311161 Share on other sites
Huguenot
"it is the Stoke Newington of south London, oozing concern. Homeopaths, feng shui consultants, therapists of every hue abound"I thought we'd chased those blighters out of town? Apart from Monica, who is very very nice of course :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10656-plus-ca-change/#findComment-311162 Share on other sites
mockney piers
Weirdly was reading this this morning about toll-bars in 1857 and also thought plus ca change. Change the year to 2006+ and toll gates to councils, parking schemes, speed cameras etc and this could be the forum today Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10656-plus-ca-change/#findComment-311180 Share on other sites
????
It could have been Mamora Man! I agree with the poster as it happens! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10656-plus-ca-change/#findComment-311187 Share on other sites
cate
The writer made a mistake. She should have said it resembles Crouch End. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10656-plus-ca-change/#findComment-311199 Share on other sites
