We had:

1. Moses basket for next to bed for first month then the babies went next door in their baskets inside their cot, IFSWIM.

2. TRavel system from Chicco that provided a carry cot for first few months on a slant if you like, then a stroller facing outwards, and also your first car seat.

I agree prams (sorry travel systems!) are too dear and I have various much better off friends who bought secondhand but I couldn't bear to. Up to you. No logical reason why not. I just felt that ideally my babies should have new stuff and when I thought what the amount saved would buy, (basically a few dinners out) I decided to get the new prams.

it is a bit of a minefield though.

One tip/thing we did a bit wrongly - get a "travel system" with a car seat that goes to age 4 if possible. ours was just for tiny babies.

    • I think that's about it.  I know 1pmobile.com do £10 for 60days, or £48/yr, both of which include substantial usage if you need it. PS just checked.  £5 in it too for each of us if you want a referral.
    • Oh. I've been looking into this (online) and it seems I would still have to pay something (at least a fiver)  every month even if I wasn't using the phone, because they all seem to be 30 day rolling contracts. Have I misunderstood? I need something for emergency use only.
    • There is a reason why I think only England and Chile (no idea why) have a fully privatised national water set-up, and why the UN recognises the right to water as a human right - "the right to water entitles everyone to have access to sufficient, safe, acceptable, physically accessible, and affordable water for personal and domestic use".   Whoever is running pension funds should be shifting sharply, if they haven't done so already (and I'm sure they haven't for the most part).
    • I’d have gone for ‘scorned’.
