curly amy
hello,i have just had a little girl (weighing in at 6lbs 3oz, so quite wee...)I'd like to use reusable nappies and wondered if anyone had advice re the type which might be best for a petite girl with quite explosive poo!Preferably, from a financial perspective, it would be great to have birth to potty, but I realise that this may not be possible due to her size (even newborn clothes are too big right now!)I have one life nappies and a few bambinex, but both drown her right now. Thanks to anyone who can offer advice,Amy x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10817-advice-re-reusable-nappies-for-an-explosive-girl-needed/ Share on other sites
Pickle
Hi Amy,I used prefold nappies (basically a big cotton rectangle, which you fold and cover with a plastic cover) with my daughter when she was first born - she was under 6lbs at her lightest, so also a small baby). They are cheap, and can be very effective if used properly. The main thing is to get very good covers, as that is what will hold the nasties in!I then moved to "proper" resuables once she was bigger, although my prefolds ended up lasting for the first 6 months.I suggest you contact Molly (The Nappy Lady) who could show you different nappy options and help find one that's best for you.P x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10817-advice-re-reusable-nappies-for-an-explosive-girl-needed/#findComment-313913 Share on other sites

jeh
I've got an 8 week old and am still using muslin squares - he was 10lbs so was a big baby , and has explosive poos - I've found the muslins really successful, the poos are no less contained than using a disposable, and the muslins wash up (I rinse poo ones in a bucket first) without leaving a stain - plus they dry in about half an hour!I used fitted nappies with my first baby - and they were massive and bulky on her at first - so am really happy with the muslins as they let my little boy stretch around so much more. 24 muslins cost me ?15 - so its really good value for the short time they can be used. The Nappy Lady
Hi,I would second using folded muslin squares for now, not worth investing in tiny nappies really as they grow so fast, unless you get them before baby arrives (maybe next time as by then you will know for sure that cloth nappies are for you) :-)I would normally lend you my newborn kit, but it's about to go to a friend who's 2nd baby is due very soon, really sorry. There is lots of info and links to You Tube videos on the Nappy Lady site re muslin options, give me a shout if you can't find them.Congrats on your baby girl, she sounds lovely!Mollyx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10817-advice-re-reusable-nappies-for-an-explosive-girl-needed/#findComment-314142 Share on other sites

The Nappy Lady
Hi Amy, yes you need waterproof covers - if you don't have suitable ones give me a shout as I have lots and can lend you some. You either need snug fitting Velcro wraps to hold the Muslins on, or Nippas to fasten muslins with looser popper fastening wraps.Mollyx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10817-advice-re-reusable-nappies-for-an-explosive-girl-needed/#findComment-314525 Share on other sites
