Bike Train Wednesday August 10th

Recommended Posts

Take the Bike Train to work. Experienced riders escort you along quiet routes, keep you safe and deliver you happy and with a sense of achievement before 9am.

We use two parks, a traffic-calmed backstreet, the New Kent Road on-pavement cycle lanes, the Elephant and Castle cycling by-pass and the lovely new segregated lanes up to the north side of Blackfriars Bridge. All safe and all legal.

We start at 8am from Nunhead Station and pick up riders from Peckham Rye station (from the bike stands behind McDonalds) at 8.10am. We are joined by riders from Denmark Hill who leave that station at 8.10am (from outside the cafe in Windsor Walk) and join the train in Burgess Park.

From there we take people on (if they want) to Faringdon, Westminster, Mayfair or Tower Hill. Return rides arranged personally. All free.

Full details here: http://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/events/5462/. To let us know you are coming from Nunhead or Peckham Rye you can text me on 07842 640 207 or just turn up. Liz Eden leads rides from Denmark Hill and you can text her on 07814 515 715.

    • Back to my earlier post about familiarity.  I was in Croydon this afternoon walking between the two main stations.  Didn't feel unsafe, but there were some 'interesting' characters on the street.  Not that any were bothered with me. Not a place I'd choose to go for a bit of a fun.  Although having said that West Croydon has some cracking restaurants and the wonderfully named Saints and Sinners bar, where I once went on a corporate do - not that I did many of these. Whoops just checked and it closed a few months ago. Back on track, I never went to the Castle as I felt it was a bit rough.  How wrong was I?  Only real pub left in the area.
    • Wow Sue! I was reading your post with interest as I’ve never really felt unsafe in London and I was born here. It was just your last paragraph that derailed me and totally changed the subject matter! So unnecessary.
    • What made you think it was lost?
    • I'm pretty sure I saw him today near the junction of Lordship Lane and Dulwich common standing by the crossing near the entrance to the woods. Wearing a black trench coat , black trousers and dark timberland style boots his clothes looked somewhat worn and he was looking pretty wild eyed..I was in a car going by and I noticed him standing by the kerb looking somewhat aggrivated. other women please be aware
