Can anyone recommend activities for teenagers?

Hi there

We've recently moved into the area from Herne Hill... although only a 2 mile move door to door, we are now in a totally different borough and I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on what there is to do for older kids?

Lambeth did seem to provide quite a bit but I'm struggling for schemes in Southwark.

There always seems to me to be a glut of activities for toddlers and younger children but not so for those over the age of 12!

My son is 14 and, aside from attending the drama school JASSPA at JAGS on Saturdays, he's not really involved in anything else locally, which is a shame as he doesn't have many friends in the area because he goes to school near Wimbledon!

So parents of teens - what do you do with yours after school/on weekends/during the summer months?

If there are local activities around to keep my son away from the PS2/3/Wii/PC etc I'd love to hear about them!!

Is your GLEEK status off the radar??? Are you in need of some GLEE-HAB???

On Thursday 15th April 2010, Glee Club Dulwich commences its second exciting term!!

Glee Club has got off to an amazing start, with 26 teenagers raising their voices every week, to some complex and exciting arrangements of some great songs!

Glee leaders Spencer James and Katharine Woolley have been amazed by the dedication shown by "The Gleeks" and the wealth of talent coming through the door makes for a very exciting evening, each Thursday!

We are particularly thrilled to have found our home at St Faiths Community Centre, an amazing venue that lends itself beautifully to performance and music! We meet every Thursday from 7.30 - 9.30pm, and will shortly be announcing our GLEEK WEEK Summer School!

Spencer and Katharine believe that Glee Club and its members are a great asset to the area and we are looking for opportunities to "show off" the talents of the group, especially in the summer months - so we would love to hear from anybody who is looking for a little GLEE!

The aim of Glee Club is to provide a unique and enriching musical experience for children and young adults between the ages of 13 and 18. The group is led by Spencer James and Katharine Woolley, who between them have extensive experience working with children of all ages and backgrounds.

Glee club every Thursday night at Red Post Hill. Cant recommend it highly enough. Has brought my shy teenager out of their shell.

Glee Club is unique in that it offers a specialist approach to the appreciation and practice of singing/music, giving our members the opportunity to learn and perform difficult arrangements of songs from all genres of music.

The area is well represented by weekend theatre schools and clubs, however, these are often over populated by the younger age bracket of 7 ? 12 years, and children over this age can often be overlooked, as the level of teaching is often pitched to accommodate the youngest and least experienced. Glee Club aims to nourish the musical abilities of its members in an exciting and energised environment and opening up the club to a diverse range of children is extremely important to us. We feel confident that our target age bracket will benefit greatly from our approach.

There's one on his school grounds but he's never been that interested... he's decided he's going to be a doctor, I think it's watching too much Scrubs that has caused this...!!

Cool, didn't know about that, he joined his school's cricket club in year 7 but was disappointed by the unfair and biased manner in which the coach played favourites and he was often overlooked... That same teacher said yesterday that he was an aamazing fast bowler - ha!

Thanks, was looking at that with my son only the other day, it seems there are a lot of courses going on, can't believe they're all free, I'm so impressed!! I filtered by Lambeth borough and there was nothing in his age group so I'm definitely warming to being in Southwark :-)

As I wrote above, my son's more into Scrubs... but that being said I reckon he'd probably secretly love Glee if he gave it a chance (he grew up on a diet of Hannah Montana and other US disney channel shows!!)

Sorry Tarafitness am utterly useless at attachments. They had a wondeful concert at the Albany last night. There is going to be a week long summer course. We will be on holiday then so I havent kept the flyer. I have asked Spencer to post details on the forum.

Great, thanks for that... I spoke to my son about this last night funnily enough and he said that, although he has no desire to watch the programme, he'd be more than up for singing the songs! :-)
