RE: refurbing Victorian sash windows

Hi

Any reliable recommendations for this - most of the frames seem basically ok, but we would be grateful a very rough idea of costs for one window for anyone who has had this done.

But we have at least where the cord needs replacing and another which needs complete overhaul, and several that need some TLC (exterior painting of both frames and the surrounds)and we're thinking of doing these one at a time.

You may not be up for it but it's actually straightforward to do this yourself. Just start slow and follow advice in UK DIY sites.

Basic hand tool set required and you can replace the sash cords etc.

Yes, have re-strung sashes a couple of times using the old Reader's Digest book of DIY (I kind you not). Not my thing really - unless I really have to. And sadly at least one window needs more far more than the cords replacing. Will use search on EDF and see what's what.
