Visa v Mastercard

Rationalising my credit cards.

Before I cancel my Visa, is there any advantage (eg when travelling) to having a Visa rather than a Mastercard?

Hi Sue, for five years I did a lot of international travelling on behalf of my company.I did not find any advantage in either card, however you will find certain establishments that will only take Visa or Mastercard, hence my reason for having both.As a matter of interest Visa are sponsoring the 2012 olympics and therefore Visa is the only card accepted on the Olympic site and all ATMs on the site are operated by Visa I believe.It seems "Felt Tip" was replying at the same time as me and we both agree regarding Visa and the Olympic site

I have no plans to go to the Olympics, but yes if some places only take one or the other that's a good reason to keep on one card of each kind, thanks!

It's used to be handy to have both as some countries do have a marked preference, though I think most places take either these days. Except Austria, which seems to just not take any credit cards at all.
