According to the Southwark News this week, Southwark expect to lose ?76 million in Government subsidies over next 4 years.

Peter John is asking ways of doing things/providing services more efficiently to manage this reduced budget. Anyone got any ideas as to how this could be achieved/what could be changed?

Cancel the free newspaper would be a start and a lot of the other self promotion activities of the Council. The only way I want to know that the council is doing well is by observing and experiencing good services - I don't need a freesheet / advertsing poster / bus ad or anything else to tell me.

      Beware - sheet ice Avondale Rise .

      Please be aware that there is a huge sheet of ice approx 12ft x 6ft on the road at the top end of Avondale Rise on the left hand side approaching Ivanhoe Road.  The council was told earlier this morning, but advised that, due to a reduced service, it is unlikely that grit /salt will be spread before Monday!  Several (thankfully minor) accidents have happened since this morning.  A resident has thoughtfully erected a temporary sign to advise traffic of the hazard, but bearing in mind that temperatures are due to fall to -4 over the weekend and this is on a bus route, please be very careful if driving on this road.

      Paul was great for us - came round at an ungodly hour of the day at short notice to fix a problem. Very nice bloke too
