A friend of mine is moving into a property that has no heating in the bedroom and economy 7 in the lounge. The rooms are aprox 10 x 12 each with double glazing. What would be the most appropriate to buy blow heaters, oil filled or convectors? Assume one can put these on timers? Thanks folks.

Any electric heater will run on a timer - you can buy them separately if it isn't built in.

Assuming you mean feet not metres? So 3m x 3.6m

Personally I would recommend an oil-filled radiator; especially for a room that size. I think all modern ones come with a built-in timer.

Convectors are noisy and inefficient - ok for heating up a room quickly, but as soon as you switch it off, no heat will be produced.

We installed wall mounted electric radiators which are thermostatically controlled into our office (building in garden concerted and had no heating). They work really effectively and are economics. The room is @ 5/6 m square and two heaters have been more than adequate.
In absolute terms there's no difference in pure efficiency between different types of heaters - producing heat from electricity is a straightforward process, and in energy terms you get out what you put in. The difference between the types is how quickly the heat is produced and dispersed. Fan heaters are only good when you just need instant heat. For a bedroom either oil filled or panel heaters with timers would do the job. Can't they extend the 'economy 7' (which I assume means storage heaters) into the bedrooms?

    • It wasn't an antique and bric-a-bac shop but an antique market with a number of different traders, the cafe supported all the dealers in bringing in custom, and was good enough to generate trade for them. It was Rodney Franklin's and his partners enterprise, he previously had an antique shop in Queenstown Road in Battersea. His late wife ran the cafe (she was a very fine actress, it was a 'resting' job).  It was on the corner of a junction on the left as you head towards Camberwell. And almost opposite, if memory serves at all, an MFI style furniture outlet.
    • i used to go there in the late 80's and '90s (?) the food was served cafeteria style and there was limited choice, but what there was alays tasted amazing!  The garden was an absolute paradise, you could sit in it to lunch in the summer!  i've tried to locate its site but Walworth Road has changed so much since then - does anyone remember the house number?
