Can anyone advise on "No signal at Tuner 2" message on PVR?

Recommended Posts

I was delighted when my daughter gave me her old PVR - it's a Topfield TF5800.

However on some of the channels (including ITV and Channel 4) I am getting a message "no signal at Tuner 2".

I have googled this and found this message "most likely" means that one of the tuners has not been connected, or the connection has come undone, so I have checked the connections, which seem OK.

It then says I may have too low a signal level for the PVR to work reliably and the aerial may need adjusting to work correctly with digital television. I am getting some digital channels OK, but my TV aerial has been on the roof for over twenty years to the best of my knowledge, and I wonder if I need a different one?

Has anybody else had a similar problem, and if so how did you solve it? Do I need to get an aerial specialist in, and if so can anybody recommend one locally?

Thanks!

I have a load of failed recordings of CBeebies :-$ and I am missing my fix of 3rd and Bird :-$

Just had a quick look at the online manual. Couple of things to check (see linked site below)

TF5800 Manual

Is you TV aerial connected to connector 1 (it's a bit confusing but I think the TV aerial should be on connector 1 and not 12)

Does it have a 'loop' cable connected from connector 2 to connector 3 on the back.

If that doesn't help you could try this (from the manual):

'However, if you are in a weak signal area, or are using a signal amplifier with more than one output, you may achieve better results by connecting a cable from the aerial or amplifier directly to the ANT2 connector, rather than using the loop cable.'

Thanks very much for this, it's all connected up properly with the loop cable in the right sockets, so as you say I think I am going to have to do away with the loop cable and have a direct connection to ANT2.

A very kind forum member is coming over tomorrow morning to have a look and advise me, as I have absolutely no idea what or how to directly connect to the ANT2 socket :-$

    • I think Watsons General Telegraph do two margaritas  for £13 every Thursday. The Great Exhibition also does a margarita deal on a Thursday: https://www.greatexhibition.pub/new-events-1 I've not tried either deal yet.
    • We first used Aaron's services for a badly damaged wall that had gone back to the brickwork due to water ingress from the bay window. We found Aaron initially through recommendation and were very fortunate to do so as we already had a couple of quotes from trades found online that were just ridiculous, clearly just a rip off, so not sure what we would of done without that recommendation. We have just had more work completed by him, two walls skimmed and more comprehensive work where the brickwork was exposed around the fireplace. The wall above the fireplace was the original plaster finish and in good condition but the original plan was to have the whole wall replastered but we couldnt get the tv off the wall bracket so asked Aaron if he could just plaster up to the tv, not ideal but not much choice. Aaron didnt have any issue with that atall and more than happy to do it. Amazingly the join between the new plaster and old plaster is invisible. Perfect feather edge finish.  Aaron is very pleasant natured, he turns up on time, he doesnt mess about and gets on with the job. He works in a very clean manner. He doesnt try and inflate the job to make it more expensive. We found him to be extremely competitively priced. Both jobs have been finished to an excellent standard. The finish is so smooth its like glass. We will certainly be using his services again in the future.     Aaron Manser 07773 410661
    • Yes, and now there's a leak further down Barry Road. Two men from Thames came and stood there looking at it and then went away. Over 24 hours later water still pouring out and no sign of any action to repair
