DVLA - Refund of VED

Well, I freely admit I just didn't know this, so a head's up to others who may not be aware.

Decided to get rid of the little run-around, and duly sold it at the end of the month in order to maximise the refund of VED ie: complete months left to run. I have now received acknowledgement from DVLA which also informs me that it is only complete months left to run from when they receive it. As I did all the paperwork in the local post office, then clearly they would have received notification a few days into the month, thus losing another month's "tax" (only about a tenner, but..). This is clearly/probably a change introduced from October 2014 when they stopped issuing paper discs. So folks don't do the end of the month thing anymore. You will need to do it a few days before the end. This is the first time we have sold/bought a vehicle since October 2014, and yes, before someone points it out, I am now aware that it is on the DVLA website.

Has been like this since the 1930s. Count yourself lucky is only ?10, can be up to ?41 depending on your car tax band.
