my 5 year old get's ?2 a week on a saturday and he never forgets! I am pleased we started with the pocket money thing because he has saved up for various toys, which I wouldn't normally let him get because I think they are a waste of money or that we have got something similar already, but if he saves his money it's his choice what to spend it on.

We do 25p per week per year of life, so 9yr old ?2.25 per week and 6yr old ?1.50 per week. We still buy odd comics on top.

PS Forgot to add we take money off for bad behaviour, e.g. 10p / 20p and they can earn it back or get extra for odd chores such as sweeping up all the rice on the floor after their toddler sister (who doesn't get any pocket money) has thrown her dinner everywhere or picking up apples / leaves in the garden etc.

My 9yr old has become v. careful with her money and considers purchases and chooses between things. The 6yr old still doesn't quite get it and sulks when she can't get everything she wants but we don't give in.

i think start low and if they want more they can take on chores of some kind. obviously they should do some chores anyway- but cutting grass /hedges/weeding/cleaning car are all good ones and they can start off withyou teaching them these life skills and as they take them on themselves you give thema bit extra.

?80 a month??!!!!! Holy Cow - I'm definitely not letting my 14year old see this thread: we're more at the WOD end of the spectrum.

Re 6yr old; mine gets 10p per week for each year of his life, so currently 60p. We did this for all ours up to secondary school when a more appropriate allowance was negotiated. Can see that maybe 25p per week, per year might be more useful for teaching about money management though.

80 pounds for 14 years old ::o she is lucky kid in did. Im 27 and i never get 80 pound pocket money from my hubby ))))))

We use to get 1 per week from about 2 years old then my Grands start giving me 25p every time i did something good at school remember i saved money for my very first Designer bag)))) at age 9ish mum was very proud of me and bought me Dior bag (i only had about 60 pound rest of the money came from mum and Dad of course))))) Still have my bag in very good condition ))))

    • I'd like to recommend Andy - came out very last minute to help us with a rental property that was having plumbing issues. We couldn't source the problem but Andy was able to find it / fix it easily & took the stress out of the problem. We have booked him again to put in a new bath for us now too as we were so happy with this work.    Lovely fella - thoroughly recommend using! Andy's number is 07983 688 451
