"If you are concerned, you can telephone your local Fire and Rescue Service to check they are genuine. You will not be asked for any money, so be aware of callers offering to carry out the above for a small charge, they will be bogus."

They do home visits - I'd still just say I don't have any smoke alarms and look at their eyes.

I don't think it's a scam as they knocked on my door and had a box of smoke alarms to fit. Also gave me information on preventing a fire and also had official paperwork to leave with me to prove they had been. As it's free if you have no smoke alarms I would let them in!

There may well be a scheme where genuine Fire Personel will visit and fit for free Smoke Alarms..

However there may also be Scammers taking advantage of such a scheme pretending to be from the fire service

to gain access to your home.

Always exercise strict caution and ask for I.D. If in doubt do not let anyone into your home.

I do have fire alarms it's just the CO one that expired with me.

If I said I didn't I'd be able to tell straight away they were real by

the look of horror and following lecture (and they're right of course)..

    • You can get a card at the till, though, to get the discount. You don't have to carry it with you (or load it onto your phone), you can just get a different card each time. Not sure what happens if they notice 🤣
    • Yes..that may be the case but membership STARTING at £115 a month is still unafforable for many. Council gyms also have a large range of equipment and I had a  PT at Dulwich leisure centre when I was in Full Time employment who was incredible and even kept in contact during lockdown giving me a program I could do at home and checking in weekly at no charge or personal gain for herself. I dont doubt that Fit For may be a good gym (Its been in situ long enough so must be doing something right) However the cost of membership means it is affordable for the few not the many. If I could afford that kind of fee I would rather get a train to Canary Wharf and go to Virgin active where theres a pool and incredible classes and facilities
    • This sounds great 👍
    • We found a red TREK bike yesterday that had clearly been stolen and dumped. Would love to reunite it with its owner. Get in touch if you know whose it is.
