Kath47
Has anyone in the area had two men dressed as firemen knock on their door? I think it is a scam. They ask to test your smoke detectors etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/129529-firemen-scam/ Share on other sites
JohnL
"If you are concerned, you can telephone your local Fire and Rescue Service to check they are genuine. You will not be asked for any money, so be aware of callers offering to carry out the above for a small charge, they will be bogus."http://www.fireservice.co.uk/safety/hfscThey do home visits - I'd still just say I don't have any smoke alarms and look at their eyes. nxjen
I had a visit a year or so ago from a couple of firemen asking about smoke alarms. I thought it was well dodgy but when I looked out on the street there was a fire engine parked at the end of the road. summerrose
I don't think it's a scam as they knocked on my door and had a box of smoke alarms to fit. Also gave me information on preventing a fire and also had official paperwork to leave with me to prove they had been. As it's free if you have no smoke alarms I would let them in! Tomemery13
Knocked on my door a few months back. I asked them for ID and they showed it me and fitted a smoke alarm in addition to the one they tested and said wasn't positioned right. Very helpful! KalamityKel
As with anything, if you do not feel comfortable letting anyone into your property then don't do it.Kath47 did they say they would come back another time or leave with you any literature? DulwichFox
There may well be a scheme where genuine Fire Personel will visit and fit for free Smoke Alarms.. However there may also be Scammers taking advantage of such a scheme pretending to be from the fire service to gain access to your home. Always exercise strict caution and ask for I.D. If in doubt do not let anyone into your home. DulwichFox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/129529-firemen-scam/#findComment-1067029 Share on other sites
