I've travelled on that bit of the tram line and the corner is extremely tight. The drivers usually slow down to about walking pace to get round.

Awful that he's been arrested? Reports are saying that the tram was going far too fast around the bend. If so surely, barring a mechanical or technical problem he is in some way to blame?

no, I mean it's awful as it suggests the driver was to blame/ negligent. Ergo could it have been avoided?

Transport Police are being very cautious as to making any comment about the driver. Early days yet.

Terrible incident though with tragic loss of life and injuries. People just going to work. Very sad..

These things really make you think.

i was on it last year had to go pick soemthing up before my trip to moscow then on to siberia ..was a first for me defo driver error so sad

Conjecture is all very well, but an investigation will hopefully see the facts emerge. Let's not vilify anyone, there's passengers saying he blacked out.

What I read was that a passenger asked the driver if he was alright and the driver said he thought he had blacked out.

I also read that it was thought he may have gone to sleep and that he had been charged with manslaughter.

Whether any of that is true, who knows.

Apparently there was an incident in the same place in October where a tram was going much too fast and passengers thought it was going to derail.

There is a black box on these trams apparently- so all will be revealed eventually

Very sad, they have named the people who have lost their live. A book of condolences has been set up at Croydon Town Hall, on Katherine Street.
