Hi James,

I wrote some time ago and we discussed the radar speed sign at the top of Barry Rd. It has not been working for months in fact I think it stopped working last year. This is the only thing we have on Barry Rd to make people aware of their speed. I appreciate its a main bus route and that rules out speed bumps but there has to be something else that can be done to reduce the speed that some drivers do. Its scary sometimes how fast cars fly down the road. I have a 2 1/2 year old and it really concerns me that I don't feel safe walking down our road.

The least that can happen is that the sign is repaired but it would be good to get a speed camera set up.

Please, this is important for all the residence of Barry Rd.

Thanks

Ellie

I agree, the speed in which some cars travel up and down the road is crazy.

I was nearly hit yesterday when I crossed the road, and a young guy in a silver BMW got impatient with the traffic queue forming behind a number 12 bus that had stopped to let off passengers. He floored it, pulled out into the oncoming lane, and over took about three cars and the bus and then nearly hit me on the wrong side of the road.

A bit vigilante, but I wonder if standing out there with a camera for half an hour taking photos of the bad drivers and sending them to the traffic dept might get something done? (of course this would not detect the speeding cars)

You might be better putting this on James's thread, as it's addressed to him?

    • Second time Aria has completed a plumbing job for me and both times he’s been polite. Communicative, kept to time and completed the job. He’s very helpful and tidy as well. First job was ball valve in water tank, not easy at all. He and his team were fantastic. This time kitchen tap cylinders replaced and tap tightened.  Much appreciated, Aria thank you.
    • Thought others may be interested to help a local community centre help others.    My bank account offers roundup and it’s been growing all year. As well as treating myself or putting it towards a train ticket to see my family I’ve made a donation to the Albrighton. They can use donations at any time but I hope my donation will go towards the Christmas hampers.    Can you support them so they can provide Christmas hampers?   https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/albrightoncommunityfridge?utm_id=1&utm_term=M22JKQb6W   A donation of £50 will pay for a hamper to feed a family over this Christmas period. A donation of £30 will pay for a hamper to feed someone living on their own over the Christmas period.
    • I've never got Christmas pudding. The only times I've managed to make it vaguely acceptable to people is thus: Buy a really tiny one when it's remaindered in Tesco's. They confound carbon dating, so the yellow labelled stuff at 75% off on Boxing Day will keep you going for years. Chop it up and soak it in Stones Ginger Wine and left over Scotch. Mix it in with a decent vanilla ice cream. It's like a festive Rum 'n' Raisin. Or: Stick a couple in a demijohn of Aldi vodka and serve it to guests, accompanied by 'The Party's Over' by Johnny Mathis when people simply won't leave your flat.
    • Not miserable at all! I feel the same and also want to complain to the council but not sure who or where best to aim it at? I have flagged it with our local MP and one Southwark councillor previously but only verbally when discussing other things and didn’t get anywhere other than them agreeing it was very frustrating etc. but would love to do something on paper. I think they’ve been pretty much every night for the last couple of weeks and my cat is hating it! As am I !
