sociable cycle ride to Lord Mayor's Show Sat 12th

Actually the heading is a bit mis-leading. The ride doesn't take part in the show or even watch it. It takes advantage of the closed roads to have a nice quiet potter around the City.

The ride starts 10am from Canada Water Library which is opposite Canada Water Underground Station, SE16 7AR. The 12th is the morning of the Lord Mayor's Show and Werner Wiethege is planning again to lead a ride on closed roads in the City getting there before the procession!

The plan is to get to QW1 via Southwark Park, cross Southwark Bridge and see what's allowed on the other side. If the police don't mind we can enjoy carfree Queen Victoria Street, maybe invade the Temple and come out the embankment and along the CSH to London Bridge.

If the police are a bit jumpy and we look too dangerous, Plan B is to go east on the CSH and cross into Royal Mint Street (maybe a historical footnote for the recent 80th anniversary of Cable Street), then down St Katharine's and another glimpse of QRB Gloriana and then back via CSH to London Bridge.

Bruce is away this weekend so he is hors de combat. Werner's email is dd2008 @ 3112.org (take out the spaces). It's the usual easy-paced and friendly ride returning to Canada Water Library, which sells coffee, for 12 noon.

    • There are "plans" to build more reservoirs, with physical work yet to be started, with the first hoped to be completed by 2036, and a second by 2040, then time is needed for them to fill so add at least another 12 months on. However, if the 1.5 million homes are built by 2028, each averaging 2 people occupying them.(some will be more, some will be less) then thats 3 million people showering, bathing and using water.  Therefore there is a massive demand that will strain our current inferstructure between 2028 and 2037 (nearly ten years) plus all those homes will need electricity, as the ambition is to phase gas usage out, which will take just as much time to reinforce the network to cover, let alone add in the ability to cope with green production electricity that needs to be moved from wind and solar farms to where it is most needed.  Therefore, is the current plan to build more homes, regardless of where they are,  potentially going to have serious ramifications on already creaking networks ?

    • Cheers for that. Surprising to see it's over 25 years since it closed.
