Whilst at work today our nanny opened the door to some guys who said they were bailiffs representing HMRC, and that they needed my contact details to serve notice to claim ?300 of unpaid PAYE. This is ridiculous as my tax is sorted by my employer.

They left a letter which looks pretty fake (slightly wonky printing, no real personal details other than my name and the first line of my address which they probably could have got from the recycling bin).

Anyway, just a warning that this happened as presumably they won't just visit us!

    • Adding a recommendation for Andy, who just did a job for us hanging heavy mirrors and pictures in our house. He gave a clear and fair price, works very tidily, made sure that I was happy with the work and placement of the pictures and is very pleasant to have around.

    • The root of all these problems is that the model of capitalism pursued in this country for the last 45 years has failed utterly. It’s only true beneficiaries inhabit an ever decreasing circle of have-lots in a sea of have-nots, defended by an increasingly squeezed band of born at the right time boomers, which surely cannot hold.
    • I'm talking about parts of the country economically deprived, some that never recovered from the loss of traditional industries. But in your point, yes, there are those that are never happy.  We should be reasonably happy in this area.
