I have being looking for a bespoke cake maker in Dulwich and came across a local company called Newell Occasions which was listed on Yell.com. Their website is very impressive and judging by the look of the cakes, they may be a bit expensive too!

Has anyone used them? Where is their shop located? Are they reasonably priced?

Your previous posts show that you know the company because you actually said you went to the owners house to get your cake....yet on this post you are pretending you have not used them...

Hello Biba,

I only joined this Forum today, so I am very sorry if passing on my suggestion a bit late!!

There's a 'bespoke cake company' which I recently ordered a cake from for my BBQ party on Saturday and the cake was exceptional!! I found out about them on Yell.com and the company which is based in Dulwich and it's called 'Newell Occasions'. They are primarily an Events Management company but they also supply Wedding and Celebration cakes to which ever design you wish.

I went to collect my cake and found that it is only a small company which is run from the owners apartment. The building itself is a little off putting,(the one that looks like a ship) but the apartment of which the business operates from was emaculate!! The kitchen sparkled clean which gives great comfort!

The website details is www.newelloccasions.com and they also deliver.

dulwichquine, a while back I was looking for someone to make my son's birthday cake as well and got quite a few recommendations here on the Forum, see this thread: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,494641,497790#msg-497790. I ended up ordering ours from Newell Occasions and it turned out really great but all the others seemed good as well. Jennifer from bespokecakeslondon in particular was really helpful but she, just like Ceri, was going for a holiday around the time we needed the cake. Good luck!

I agree Lawrence, for a cake that has ready rolled icing on it and some ribbons does not warrant hundreds and hundreds of pounds, most of the flowers can be bought online and even if it is handmade, near a grand is not worth that price as apart from the flowers there is not much 'skill' involved. The ingredients probably are not organic either. I would never pay that price and ?100 for a train cake is shocking. Anne Marie made a train cake for Henry for ?35 or ?40.

That is why generally I use Ceri as she does not charge a high price just because she can, her prices are realistic ( as is Anne Marie from Constance Cakes) and it tastes good and looks good. Not tried the others.

I did order my two cakes from Newell, they did taste nice, but I still cannot understand why her wedding cakes are so much money as the cakes though nice, were not exceptional, or extra special. Ceri's cakes on the other hands are visually stunning, and the taste is gorgeous! Anne Marie cakes are lovely also.

I know there are a few other mums making cakes so I will have to give them a go also.

I just have issues with someone from Newell Occasions pretending to be someone else recommending their cakes on here, rather than following the lead of Ceri and Anne Marie and posting as themselves.

    • You implied he did a good job in your first paragraph when you said you would have hated to see Corbyn lead the country through Covid - the alternative being Johnson, presumably? With the results we all saw. Unite - you have a problem with unions? Who work hard to see that their members get a fair deal in their workplace? How exactly are these people and groups "all as bad as each other"? In what way? Labour "purging their party of the far-left" has given us a weak prime minister who has apparently deserted any "left" (aka caring for other people and having decent moral principles) leanings he ever had. Which is why people appear to be leaving Labour in droves and voting, or intending to vote, Green or Lib Dem or for an independent Left candidate. Starmer has shot himself in the foot, in my opinion. But what would I know. What worked?! I don't know enough about what you are talking about to comment, but "believing" you know the reason someone did something does not make it true. I don't believe that Corbyn ever got "starstruck" or "forgot about his politics", but if you can provide evidence that those things are true, then fair enough. I don't think you can, though.
    • I think you need to get a grip If it's who I am thinking of, she's a young black girl in her twenties, has braids with bright colours through them and - I suspect - works with her father. It's always the same man behind the wheel and he's older than her, always in the same van, so I'm assuming it's a father-daughter combo which, if it is, I think is rather sweet.  They hustle hard in a job that is poorly paid, has little prospects, is relentless and thankless. The fact that they have stuck it out since the pandemic says a lot about them.  I think she's a lovely girl, who's perhaps a little shy - but she'll smile or chat back if you make the effort with her. And I admire her for sticking with that job for so long. Perhaps she's just one of these people who's naturally a bit clumsy or bashes things, the same way some people are heavy on their feet when they walk. But I wouldn't dream of jeopardising her job because she closes the slams the gate and doesn't 'kiss' the ring doorbell with her fingers.  Perhaps she's being passive aggressive because you are. And perhaps she also wishes she got to spend her time worrying about potential damage to her letterbox or her gate.  As for your gate / letterbox - you're talking about hypotheticals. Has there been any damage? No. Then go and live your life and worry about it when it happens.  (apols we have the wrong person, but some of my points still stand).
    • Greg did an amazing job! He built a cabinet in my living room and added shelving. A lovely guy and perfectionist who goes the extra mile. He really understands what you want and comes up with various options to meet your price range. Would highly recommend!
    • I love the fact that virtually everyone held their hands out when furlough payments were made yet can't equate massive debt with massive cash payments to keep the economy ticking over.
