Forgive me if I'm a little thick when it comes to these e readers and kindle. Am I right that you have to have internet connection to download the books. How do you go about this can you pay as you buy and do you have to pay separately each month on top. Also is there plenty of books available for teenage readers. I don't ask advice on anything but never had one so don't have a clue. Can you also recommend a good one please as there are so many.

Thanks for the advice

I have recently acquired a kindle and yes you "buy" on amazon and if you have wifi it takes less than a minute - AND classics eg Jane Eyre etc are free- so thats really helpful as you can download a library.

The kindle version is often quite a lot less than the paper version "new" but you can't pass it on- however its really light and portable.

kindle is owned by amazon so its very user friendly. Hard to recommend which one as some are tablets too. Depends on what you want it for.

If you look on amazon for books by favourite author you can select kindle version and see how many there are of favourite author?

Both options are available. You can pay for each book, or there is a monthly subscription option, but I am not sure this includes every title.

They often have sales on where you can get books for 99p for a limited time. I use the kindle app on my ipad and like it a lot. My wife has the small light paperlight kindle and loves it.

I've tried several - Kobo, Nook and Kindle on iPad - and for me the Kindle Paperwhite wins hands down, robust, lovely text (no eyestrain after reading all day) and the backlight is a Godsend for those with different working hours to their partners - no more arguments about leaving the reading light on!

The amount of classics available free is staggering, basically anything good that's out of copyright you can get.

One little known feature is that you can "lend" Kindle books, once you've read it you can let a friend read it on their account for, I think, up to three weeks, in which time it's disabled on your account. Not available on all titles but a good feature.

    • For reasons not worth going into, I am looking for a Jean Michel Jarre vinyl record that has Rendez Vous 4 and Magnetic Fields 2 on - so probably a greatest hits version. Cheers
    • This is my second recommendation for Leon of Electrical Initiative. He came today to fit two LED light fittings to my flat. No easy task as the wiring is about 30 years old, and the kitchen wiring was connected to the bathroom lights (for some reason). So the job was partially repairing my botched removal of the old strip-light fitting. "That's not so bad," said Leon, as he climbed his ladder and fitted a little connector and soon had the bathroom light back, then he fitted the new kitchen Lepre, and then the one in the living room. All in less than an hour. Thank you Leon!
    • We have had lots of young foxes in our street this year, very cute. We haven't been subject to them Shi**ing all over our garden as our dog owner neighbours have. They seem to be marking their territory. They were quite fond of my car roof (soft top) I boiled up some garlic and regularly spray my roof, it keeps them at bay and my car smelling like roast garlic mmmmm🫢
