Has anyone used a shed in the garen to work from home?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

We have just had a little baby and are needing extra room! As budget is tight we were thinking of erecting a shed in the garden for my partner to work in. Has anyone done this and have any tips or things that have worked or haven't or things we should look out for?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Many thanks,

Annie

The only thing I would warn you to look out for is the spiders. They love ours. Arachnids as big as your head have come out from under the floorboards.

Other than that it?s a great office/yoga space/loud guitar playing room/batcave.

I have a buddy journalist who put in a shed/office in the garden and it works well although it was not a cheap structure as it was a flat packed cottage lookalike, it needs to be fully insulated (roof and walls)

I built my own which cost 2.5k for the bits and pieces, and a few weeks of time and energy, his cost more than double that.

    • Would this not be a complaint better aimed at the council? Isn't it an anti social behaviour issue?  I think of myself as pretty live-and-let-live and feel like a miserable cow for saying this, but I do think I might complain. Personally I love the sound of fireworks but our dog is under the table, shaking like a leaf night after night and collapses in the street when he hears the noise.  I'm worried his heart'll give out.
    • The lower / no bang noise fireworks sound great.    Is there anywhere local selling those?
    • This petition to reduce the noise of fireworks is currently going through Parliament https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/738192
    • Have you complained to the solicitor directly and did they respond within the 8 weeks they have under their code of conduct - I presume they have and this is why you have escalated further to the SRA? If he doesn't respond in a timely fashion per the SRA code of conduct then I am sure they will need to take action.
