What is your 2 year old's favourite toy?

2 weeks to go until little C turns 2, and I need inspiration for a present. She's inherited a lot of stuff from her big sister, so doesn't need clothes, has a micro scooter, and a leg bike already, plus a dolls buggy....what to get her?

All suggestions welcome!

Not me, but my niece's favourite is one of those toy kitchens. She also has a toy 'workbench' for gender equality purposes ;)

I agree with the pretend toys, microwave, cooker, mini kitchen, iron and ironing board, etc. I bought my youngest a shopping trolly when she turned two complete with plastic groceries and mini boxes of cereal, biscuits, etc and it was her favourite for a long while. It even had a mini till with pretend money and a grocery scanner that beeped. You can see that I've played with it too!

My daughter absolutely loved the trampoline she got on her 2nd Birthday (a mini one) Bought it in Argos,she still has it in her room it's not that big,also blackboard and chalk,Dora phone,Books,Plastic Piano.I'll be here all night if I dont stop typing, lol.Good luck,im sure she'll love it!!

i was also going to say toy kitchen as most 2 yr olds i know love imitating mummy and daddy!

an easel with a blackboard on one side, whiteboard on the other and you can clip paper to it to paint. She loves drawing on the whiteboard and then wiping it clean again - never tires of it.

I've had the same problem with my 2 yr old - she plays with all her big sis's stuff. I think we just tried to fill some holes in what we had. Some things were:

Magnetic sketcher and wipe clean books - good for 'writing' along with big sis

Nice kitchen bits - we bought some lovely wooden cakes and cake stand and some general extras to the basics we already had from big sis.

Trampoline - I think we got this when she was 1 and big sis was 3 - went down great with both

Babies and baby bits of her own - big sis has loads but thought it better she had some that were 'hers'....good for when they argue and nice for her to have her own stuff at times.

Little keyboard and generally any instruments - both of my two can't seem to get enough of musical stuff (the Ivydale/Margaret effect!)

I've found with no2 that I totally ignore when all the toys that say 3+. No2 thinks she is 4 already like big sis and ignores most of the younger toys. But I do feel I'm being a little unfair to her as she doesn't seem to get any of the 'big' things that no1 got (e.g. wheelie bug, trike etc).

My little boy was mad on jigsaws at that age. And we also got him a toy garage (not just suitable for boys!) that he still plays with nearly a year later.

Thank you one and all for the suggestions. Space is a bit of an issue, otherwise I'd def. go for a play kitchen - but she does get to use the one at playgroup twice a week so I don't feel too bad about it.

I'm going to think through the other options, and at least feel like I've got some ideas now, especially with Christmas looming too.....

Mine still loves her train track. If you have one already, some special extensions like a bridge and a station could great.
