It's now become an occasional treat, whereas I used to buy one most weekends. It has encouraged me to get back to baking my own though. Artisan bakers are great, but not everyone can afford their prices on a regular basis. Thanks for the tip about the French flour in the EDD SimonM - I will check that out. louisiana
Being a lazyweb sort of person who hates lugging lots of heavy stuff home, I tend to buy my flours online from Shipton Mill. Amazing range of organic everything. Thanks for the local flour tip. I also bought some 'light' wholewheat flour on sale for about a quid. dita-on-tees
not bad at all for sourdough. I attempted to create a sourdough starter, apparently once they get going you cant kill them, except through heat.... mine is looking remarkably dead. cate
Re Blackbird bread - I too like the walnut and onion. I also like/liked the rosemary one. Haven't been in there in ages. They both make good toast the next day. Don't like their baguettes as they are strangely sweet and one of the wholemeal ones is also sweet. cate
Flour Power Bakery is at the Peckham Sunday Market and they have a large choice of bread. 100% ryes, part ryes, white sourdough, spelt, cottage tins.....I also recommend the Blackheath Sunday Market which has at least 4 different bakeries selling their wares. cate
Don't know how long it has been trading but at least a couple of years. It's located in the Blackheath Station car park. Free parking on Sunday. Market runs from 10 am - 2 pm.
