social cycle ride this Saturday December 17th

this is a train-assisted ride so bring your Oyster or contactless card and it's also one of the longer ones.

It starts at 9.30am from Canada Water Library (opposite the station SE16 7AR). I've just finished reading a TfL update which says they are putting on extra Overground trains so getting to Canada Water should be a doddle. Alternatively once you are on the Overground stay on it to meet the rest of the group at Haggerston Overground Station at 10am.

After that you need your bike. The route goes to London Fields, down Broadway Market, and then along canal towpath to Victoria Park. Complete circuit of park with a stop at the Pavilion Cafe. Head back via more towpath, Mile End Park, Green Bridge, yet more towpath, Limehouse Basin. The towpath is one of London's best off-road routes, completely flat with lots of interesting buildings, old and new. And the last Saturday before Christmas it shouldn't be too crowded :)

After the towpath the route goes west on north bank Thames path to St Katherines, and takes the EW CSH from Tower Hill, London Bridge, east on south bank Thames path (NR4) and back to Canada Water around 1pm.

Flat route, lots off road.

the route is at https://goo.gl/7Mf3Na. Bruce's phone no is 07729 279 945 to let him know you are coming or check details

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
