Wanted quad core or high spec MACBOOK - maybe i7- possibly with big RAM - for my son who wants to use it for digital music creation.

Call Apple, they have secon hand/used ones, display models, they sell for a discount, but as the price of the new ones rose sharply after Brexit, the discount is unlikely to be as good as it used to be.
