social cycle ride Saturday Jan 21st

The usual easy-paced Saturday morning ride but a little longer this time.

This one starts 9.30am instead of 10am and ends at 1pm rather than noon. It starts from Canada Water Library (opposite CW station, SE16 7AR) The plan is to ride to Haggerston from Canada Water, arriving there at 12.30 andthen take the Overground back to Canada Water, getting there by 1pm (so bring Oyster card or other method of paying; it is a Zone 1-2 fare).

The proposed route follows the river to Greenwich, through the foot tunnel, round east side of isle of Dogs, continues north to Lee Navigation, and then follows this to Olympic Park. There should be time to reach the Olympic Velodrome for a coffee break.

Then the route goes across to Victoria Park and along the Regents Canal to Haggerston to catch the Overground. It's a flat ride with lots of off-road, about 13 miles total distance. Route at https://goo.gl/VkVHt4

Bruce will be leading and he is on 07729 279 945 for more info or to let him know you are coming. Or just turn up.

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
