Hi all. Am currently weaning my 6 month old but have heard differing advice which has confused me slightly! I've been reading the Gina Ford weaning book and using that as a guide as to times and menus. I've been weaning him fairly slowly and giving 2 meals, veg puree at 11am and baby rice and fruit at 5pm. The milk feeds haven't dropped loads - and what has confused me is the health visitor saying I should give solids first and then top up on milk at the end...whereas Gina Ford and Miriam Stoppard say always offer milk first. I've always breastfed but started giving a bit of formula before the 11am feed to wean him off the breast slowly as I go back to work in January. He's taking the bottle fine, but I am now bit reluctant to go totally formula due to convenience of breastfeeding (especially out and about!).

It just seems there's so many differing opinions out there on what to wean and when, it's left me a bit confused. He's also started to wake more in the nights than he used to, which is making me wonder if solids are part of that problem or not!

Anyway, if anyone has any advice on milk before or after solids - should I just stop the milk feeds (after 5 weeks of weaning) and at 6 months and a half should I start introducing breakfast, finger foods, and stop pureeing so that the food is more mashed - pulsed.

Many thanks, confused new mum!

I wa sfairly go with the flow an dused to alternate solids and milk.

Started with a meal at about 11.30, often out and about (I'd have an early lunchm they'd have some puree and self feed some chunks of fruit, veg) and then quite quickly added breakfast and tea. In between they'd have milk as usual. Milk in the day gradually dropped away (or so I like to think!!)

    • My turn to join in and sing the praises of Niko. We had a leak, which I feared would be a massive issue. Contacted him and arranged a visit quickly. He came and fixed the issue simply and straightforwardly. I really can't recommend him highly enough. Niko wIll be our first call from now on.
    • You are correct. I do run a solo cleaning company that offers resets and decluttering I've advertised here on ED forum In regards to your feminism comment, nowhere have I mentioned the gender of the reader. Men and women run homes so I'm sorry you were triggered unintentionally.  This post however is about me and in parallel refining my service. I also run my own home with 2 children and alot of the things I've learned as a solo cleaner I apply at home. Every tip trick, product and equipment gets invested back into my own life. I firmly believe in practice what you preach and I aim to ensure my advice and services are personal and lived. It means my clients get holistic support.  This isn't an advert it's me trying to learn more ways to help myself and therefore others.  Thanks for sharing your way of doing it – I like how practical your steps are, especially the rubbish and dishes by type, that makes a lot of sense.   I get where you’re coming from with the 10% everywhere approach. For me, I find doing one room at a time feels less overwhelming because I get that little boost of seeing a space fully finished. I guess it really comes down to what feels easiest and keeps you going – different methods click for different people. Angelina I think that poster took that picture off Google. Hoarding and clutter are serious mental health problems so I'm not going to entertain it.
