The bin men have been around this morning and the whole of my front garden is covered in my recycling, they haven't taken all of it and if anything else they seem to have spread around the street!

I appreciate what they do is labour intensive and hard work.

But Southwark wants us to recycle more and hopes to recycle 90% of waste by 2020, they cant do that if it's still on my neighbours and my doorstep!!

I think today was a particularly bad day obviously. I'm on Friern Rd and after the green bins had been collected (which basically is full of nappies) there were 3 nappies left in the middle of the road. Obviously I picked them up and put back into bin but still - pretty disgusting.

Not being funny, but don't you wrap the soiled nappies in something before you put them in the bin?

Bit hard on the people who empty the bin if not?

I think the nappy incident is terrible, but I found a broken bottle of glass when picking up the rubbish. The amount of children who live around here, can you imagine.

Well I cant take a picture as I've cleaned it up but yes I will be sending an email to the councillor, little will be done though I'm sure.

Hi Pebbles,

I've contact officers about the problems you had this week and will let you know the outcome. You're in the 'pilot' area so one of two possible crews will have caused this. Both crews dedicated to the 'pilot' areas so relatively easy to ensure they're don't do it again.

Hi indiej25,

Where did you read Southwark having a target of 90% by 2020?

Southwark Labour party declared a manifesot pledge to double recyclnig by 2014.

At the time recyclnig was 22% and predicted to be 24.65% before the May elections this year.

So presume that means by 2014 recyclnig rate planned to be 49.30%.

What they might have stated is 90% not going to landfill - which has already been achieved with much going to the South East London Combined Heat & Power plant just across the border in Lewisham for incineration.

    • We live in East Dulwich and often to go Rye Lane. I know people say there are good restaurants near Rye Lane.  Does anyone have recommendations for good places for lunch or dinner?  We like Manze for pie & mash at lunch. And I've been to Peckham Bazaar in the past, which was excellent.  Thanks!
    • My husband is currently a full-time carer for our two disabled children, and he’s keen to get back into paid work where he can fit it around our family needs. He’s immediately available and looking for local handyman work — from snagging and DIY jobs to gardening or general fixing-up. He’s capable, practical, and reliable, with plenty of hands-on experience restoring and maintaining, including with heritage/listed properties. If you have a to-do list you never quite get to, or need help with those annoying finishing touches, he’d be happy to help. Please drop him a message if you’d like to chat or check availability. 07968345884
    • Unfortunately Nissan was a disaster of a company when it created your car and still is, and most recently created another combined disaster alliance with Renault. Be aware, the trade value on your car is really low as no one wants to do the work & it's often only when it reaches near scrap value that someone (else) is willing to invest (their money) to try and fix. So if you're willing to front the money and fix your car that (you know) then that is most likely your best option (also understanding that it is outrageous that you should have to replace a CVT gearbox after 50K). If that isn't appealing consider a new Skoda Fabia 1.0 (Auto) on finance if you can't afford cash, it will last 20yrs.... (and avoid cars from the Stellantis group)
