I'm just starting to get my head around returning to work in May and am thinking of going down the childminder rather than nursery route. Does anyone know how to get hold of a list of registered childminders in Nunhead area or does anyone have a recommendation? Also any other advice on the subject gratefully received e.g. what a reasonable daily rate is, what the usual child:childminder ratio is?

Many thanks!

Southwark have a list of registered childminders, you can call them and request it (number on website). However I found some of the information out of date. I put a post in the Family Room Classifieds section of this forum and lots of childminders replied. That's how I found mine (who is fab).

Good luck!

rates vary from about ?40-?70 per day!! i would, however, always go with a childminder over a nursery for very little people. i've been lucky enough to have 2 wonderful childminders in the year and a half since i went back to work. the ratio is 3 to one but only one of them can be under one (i think)

how to find one? well, asking around is the best idea and go and see loads. you'll see some terrible ones but you'll also see some marvellous ones. a word of warning, good ones are often snaffled up and some have waiting lists.

good luck!

    • Did you know that registered medical practioners are supposed to report a notifiable disease to the UK HEALTH security Agency UKHSA. This includes COVID-19.  There’s  quite a long list of other diseases they must report too. They include cholera, diphtheria, acute infectious  hepatitis A/B/C, acute meningitis and acute enchephalitis.

The quality of finished work was very high so we can't recommend him highly enough, the only additional cost to us was purchasing the fixtures.
