Green Goose
The most secure method is to take it apart using the appropriate screw drivers , then smash the platters.Next best is take a very large hammer and smash it several times so that it is reduced in thickness. This smashes the paltters inside. ianr
Would you not be content with secure overwriting using dedicated drive-wiping / file-shredding software? I would. There are numerous free downloadable ones ( see eg https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-wipe-a-hard-drive-2624527) that you can burn to a flash drive or CD and boot from, and I think most of the Recovery CDs I have contain one. Don't forget too that a Windows licence may still be of value.
