Could i please ask ED parents not to describe schools which are not full of 'white middle-class children' as 'in special measures'?

I overhead such in the hairdressers yesterday and it had me seething. The school she claimed was failing is Ofsted rated good. As a local teacher whose children have attended one of the less adored ED primaries, I think people should be a bit more sensitive to the teachers, children and school communities which they are dissing.

If you choose to reject a school place on the basis of 'no or few birds of a feather' then say so. To claim the school is rubbish is insulting and reflects poorly on you too.

Flocker, this post will not go down well but for what it is worth, I agree with you. We are blessed with a varity of strong schools in Southwark and I too get dismayed at the "oh I am not so sure about that school" talk I so often overheard at open days last year. There are very few truly diverse and multicultural schools left in our area of London and it pains me. I had to search long and hard to find one such school for my child.

I hear you!

    • Thanks penguin  always wondered about that place and that’s way more info than I ever thought I would get  (used to live above a gun nut on friern road - he would tell me nothing)
    • There was a Saturday afternoon crowd of enthusiasts, and at other times the owner might have been off acquiring stock. He also repaired air guns, which he also sold. He stocked edged weapons, uniforms, including antique uniforms, air guns and ammo and starting pistols and shot. Some medals and other militaria. Quite a lot of ex service chit chat on a Saturday. I had an amateur interest, didn't deal a lot, in English pattern swords and other mainly 19th century militaria. And made some good purchases there. I'm afraid WWII and later events was the major focus of most of the regulars.
    • Did anyone actually venture in to that place? I recall it always being closed/very uninviting!
