Hi, we are still looking at a few houses in Landells Road. Do you think that the two up two downs are big enough for a growing family? We have a 6 months old boy and are planning another baby within the next 3 years.. We love the area and the houses are lovely, but wonder about the space, especially with children.. Any experience?

As ever, cheers!

I'm always slightly perplexed at the amount of space people assume is 'necessary' to house a happy family, we live in Jennings, a similar 2 up 2 down arrangement to Landells, we only have one little one but would (given the chance) happily raise two children in our home, we have an extension on the back and so our downstairs space is similar to a lot of 3-bed terrace properties in ED, upstairs space is minimal and no chance of a loft extension as the roofs are too shallow, but provided the kids (and parents) have a place to sleep - young kids love to share and the idea of bunkbeds sends our little one to sleeptime heaven. More bedrooms = bigger mortage, and I (personally) would choose a lack of financial stress (and therefore a happier family) over an extra bedroom any day...... Good luck!x

And please correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't you also be in the catchment area for Heber School? If you have the money and can afford a standard 3 bed in ED then that may suit you more, remembering to check school catchment, then look at that but if it is not as simple then I would say, go for it.

We live in a 2/3 bed with downstairs extension (bigger than a half house) and have happily bought up our children here for the last 9 yrs ....although we know we will need to extend if we stay, our kids are in a great school and fit into our odd house incredibly well.

Good luck zv2010, ED is a great place to live.

    • As a slight woman in my mid 60's who's an avid walker I find these reports really upsettting and to be honest they put me off the idea of walking around the area for relaxation and pleasure like I used to. Most disturbing is the report of them threatening to kill someones dog and trying to kick it- I'm streetwise having been born and brought up in Notting Hill long before it was gentrified, and I lived in NYC for awhile in the 80's but there was'nt this senseless nastiness attacking and intimidating people for 'sport' that there seems to be now. Not long ago I had two females on a 185 bus just pushing me and cussing me for no reason whatsover-I confronted them about it and they carried on and started threatening to kill me...I honestly have no idea why. probably Just trying to intimidate me..another passenger advised me to get off because he could see they were jabbing me in the side and pushing me around-I did get off and realised I was actually really shaken up and scared they'd followed me. I dont know why there is so much anger and hatred in the world it saddens me.
