Recommended Posts

We're finally getting round to reorganising our house and reluctantly need to sell a full set of antique pine bedroom furniture, as follows: single wardrobe, chest of five drawers, blanket box and shoe rack (original antiques), five shelf enclosed boook case (remade antique wood), plus two modern varnished pine framed mirrors. We're hoping they will find a good home from amongst the Forum readers!

May be divided (discounted if sold as complete set); buyer collects.

Dimensions, prices and pictures are all on attached PDF.

I'm not a qualified person to judge but antique in my vocabulary means old (..er than me) this doesn't look like an antique collection to me ...

Am I the only one in here who will say that this looks to new to be called antique?

I've got a 10 year old watch but I'm not calling it tatb

It is often difficult to see from photographs how old a piece of furniture is, but since all the people who have shown an interest have been invited to view the pieces, they'll be able to make their own judgement on each before they arrive at a decision. Three of the items have been in our ownership for 45 years and were considered old, outdated and unattractive by our parents back then.

Pine, commonly called Deal, was a cheap and readily worked timber used for functional furniture in less well off households and not highly decorated. Much of the raw material was imported via the old Surrey Docks and came from Canada and Russia. The old timber trade is commemorated in the road name 'Deal Porters Way' which runs over the site of the old Canada Docks and the wood often made its way along the Grand Surrey Canal and ended up at timber merchants such as Whittens, in Peckham, originally sited on the canal for ease of transportation.

    • Yes, we have a Casio CT-S100 we no longer need, except I dont think we have the headphones any more. It has a USB connection. £50? https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7333639
    • Thank you! She is both spayed and microchipped, and reported missing on Petlog and with the vets.   She normally never goes out the front, certainly for never more than 10-15 minutes, so this is definitely new territory for her. There is lots of dense foliage across the road so there are plenty of places she could be hiding if she is spooked, so we are hoping she will come back when she is calm. The weather isn't helping, she never goes out in the rain. Thank you again!
    • Hi, Have you been letting her out the front door onto the street or would this be a first & therefore unfamiliar with the area? Does she respond to a name & is she spayed & microchipped? Our team carry scanners on our daily routes & will of course be looking our for her. I hope you are reunited with her soon. If not already, notify your street & surrounding streets (find out if they have Whatsapp groups) Dox will print & deliver free missing posters https://www.doxdirect.com/help/free-missing-pet-posters/ Call her at dusk & dawn when street & foot traffic is at its lowest. • A slightly delayed review but another one to echo Niko's praises. I had an issue with a cistern that needed replacing and Niko was attentive and did a great job. He was very diligent, explained what he was doing and fixed issues from a previous plumber's work. I will definitely ask for his help again if I have any issues in the future.
