southeastelectric
I'm not a qualified person to judge but antique in my vocabulary means old (..er than me) this doesn't look like an antique collection to me ... Am I the only one in here who will say that this looks to new to be called antique? I've got a 10 year old watch but I'm not calling it tatb Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/142839-bedroom-antique-pine-furniture-set/#findComment-1106440 Share on other sites
Hare
It is often difficult to see from photographs how old a piece of furniture is, but since all the people who have shown an interest have been invited to view the pieces, they'll be able to make their own judgement on each before they arrive at a decision. Three of the items have been in our ownership for 45 years and were considered old, outdated and unattractive by our parents back then.Pine, commonly called Deal, was a cheap and readily worked timber used for functional furniture in less well off households and not highly decorated. Much of the raw material was imported via the old Surrey Docks and came from Canada and Russia. The old timber trade is commemorated in the road name 'Deal Porters Way' which runs over the site of the old Canada Docks and the wood often made its way along the Grand Surrey Canal and ended up at timber merchants such as Whittens, in Peckham, originally sited on the canal for ease of transportation.southeastelectric Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I'm not a qualified person to judge but antique in> my vocabulary means old (..er than me) this> doesn't look like an antique collection to me ...> > Am I the only one in here who will say that this> looks to new to be called antique? > I've got a 10 year old watch but I'm not calling> it tatb Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/142839-bedroom-antique-pine-furniture-set/#findComment-1106447 Share on other sites
