social cycle ride 10am Saturday March 11th

Recommended Posts

This one starts outside Canada Water library, opposite Canada Water station (SE16 7AR) and takes a round trip to Dulwich Park and back. Return by 12 noon (usually on the dot)

It's a repeat of ride on June 11th last year and a round trip of 11 miles with some gentle uphills. It's a useful way to learn the way to Dulwich Park if you don't live near there. Some of the social rides will be starting from there during the summer.

The outward route will follow the railway paths (NR425) through Bridgehouse Meadows, Brimington Park, Peckham Rye Park. Returning the group will take Crystal Palace Rd, Peckham Square, east edge of Burgess Park, Southwark Park. Mostly quiet roads or paths. A few major road crossings, but all straightforward. Route at https://goo.gl/IWkKmN.

Those of you who came on the ride last week will know this already but for those that didn't: please make sure you have a spare inner tube and carry it with you on the rides. Last week we had a puncture that was not reparable so we needed an inner tube and the bike had 26" wheels, which is smaller than most of us so no-one had a spare the correct size. Big delay.... • You are again misinformed. The Highway Code is also clear about clothing.   It is here. Section 59 Section 59 of the Highway Code explains the appropriate clothing cyclists should wear in order to make it easier for other road users to spot them and help to keep them protected in the case of a collision. Cyclist clothing: Helmet – Your cycle helmet should conform to the current regulations, be the correct size for your head and be securely fastened. Appropriate fitted clothing – Your clothing should be tight fitted to prevent it getting tangled in the chain or wheel of your bicycle. Light clothing – Light and fluorescent clothing will help you to stand out in daylight and poor light. Reflective accessories – Strips on the helmet, as well as armbands and ankle bands will help you be seen in the dark. and  Section 60 This section of the Highway Code is all about cyclists’ lights and reflectors. At night cyclists must have their white front and red rear lights lit. Their bicycles must also be fitted with a red rear reflector and amber pedal reflectors. White front reflectors and spoke reflectors can also increase your visibility to other road users. Flashing lights are permitted but cyclists riding in areas without street lighting should use a steady front lamp instead.
    • I am aware. You didn’t read my post properly: I was pointing out that people can wear whatever clothes they feel comfortable in. And that a moped isn’t a bicycle.
    • Earl A…… You are misinformed. There is a legal obligation for cyclists to have front and rear lights. Rule 60 of The Highway Code
