Just drove past a yellow road sign which promises resurfacing works on Lordship Lane (assume nr Grove Tavern as sign is by Melford Road) 13-16 March, 9pm to 5am. We live nearby and haven't had a letter and I can't see anything obvious on roadworks register, but if this is going ahead then traffic will be bad next week in the evenings!
Panic not uncleglen - the bit of road being resurfaced is just the stretch by the parade of shops opposite the Grove Tavern. There was a water leak there recently and the patch surface is pretty bad so this is planned work following the repair. Traffic will be bad though on those nights. No getting round that.

The resurfacing is planned to take place 8am to 5pm and over night 9pm to 5am each day and night. Pity the residents there. The works are fund and paid for by TfL as it's a red route. The diversion will be along Melford Road, with all its parking suspended from 6pm to 6am each night, which will be made two -way for these works.

Please see attached letter that all residents should have received by now.

I can't work out if it's crazy or common sense to do two major bits of road works in the same area at the same time. Crazy in the sense of double the travel pain or common sense to get all the pain out the way in the shortest possible time.
The amount of pollution this morning as a result of the gridlock / idling buses etc. was unbearable. One BMW with a broken exhaust was bellowing thick black smoke out whilst it sat, not moving on LL. By the time I got to work (I walked) I felt like I had smoked several packets of fags and my eyes were stinging.

    • I have fond memories of Govinda's I used to go there  back in the 90's (maybe earlier) for an affordable tasty lunch..I was wondering if its still around. Now I have to make a point of going there. Does anyone else remember a really affordable basement cafe run by the church in a street off of Golden Square? parallel to Regent Street? I also used to love the Vegetarian cafe on Neal Street in the basement (Neal Street Cafe?) and there was an inczredible inexpensive authentic Japanese resturant I use to go to with my Japanese friends (who introduced me to it) tucked away behind Long Acre where that brown brick modern building ('modern' I think it went up in the 90's!) now stands that fronts Long Acre and Neal Street..I think it was called Asakasa or something?
    • I wonder where he could be deported to, Hungary the obvious candidate in Europe, perhaps he would get on well with Modi?   Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage both said Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood should look at whether Abd El Fattah's citizenship could be revoked to enable his swift removal from the UK. Farage said in a letter to Mahmood: "It should go without saying that anyone who possesses racist and anti-British views such as those of [Mr Abd El Fattah] should not be allowed into the UK." So just racists views are ok Nige?
