Oh no I'm v confused now - is this for Horniman? I'm not sure how far we are from Horniman but it's at least our second closest (Goodrich being first). Do you think I should put Horniman down as #1 (it's currently charting at #2)?

Hello lovey, IMO you should put your closest school first (Goodrich?) and then list the rest in your preference of where you want big-mini C to go....... x

Zoe- thanks for your feedback re Horniman- its on my list but I am not sure we will get in there.

It sounds quite similar to Ivydale which I went to see last week- it was also quite laidback, lots of free and imaginative playtime etc

I would be thrilled to get into either!

we got into horniman this year and we're about 1000 metres away (on ryedale). my understanding is that we only got a place because fairlawn had a bulge class so all the children who live in between fairlawn and horniman got into fairlawn therefore freeing up more places at horniman. this year however it looks likely horniman will have a bulge class so the catchment may well be up to 1000 metres again. i don't want to give you false hope of course but it's definitely a possibility.

i must admit i don't really understand the whole putting your closest community school down first as it means you have no chance of getting into the school you really want. i would put horniman first and then goodrich but who knows, as i said, i never really got my head around the whole thing!

  • 1 month later...

understand all the stress! Clock is ticking to get the apps in this week- eek!

Just to say the info I've received is that you should put your favourite school first not your nearest because if you get your nearest but want a different one, if it's not put as a higher choice on your list you can't go onto the waiting list for it. If you get offered your second choice at least you can go on the waiting list for the first choice.

Its all very confusing.... Im putting favourite school first followed by the two nearest and hoping for the best..... unless anyone has any different info!

    • Ohh dear.  Fireworks can be great fun.  Where I used to live the kids would have firework wars/games.  Watching them was more enjoyable than watching  TV. (Which you could hardly hear due to the pops and bangs).  It's not like anyone/anything could stop them. I would still prefer organised public displays that are affordable.   And I agree that fireworks cause problems for wild life, pets and people.   It seems to be one of those things that just happens so we have to put up with it.  But it is still not as problematic here as in other areas in London - that's for sure.

    • Ugly...maybe..does it bother me..NO! I think its somehow reassuring to see theres still phoneboxes around. East Dulwich may  be getrified but there may well be some elderly people who don't have mobiles and kids who may have lost theirs adults ditto etc etc. I'd rather keep it than lose it...just because i don't use it does'nt mean its not needed.  there are many eyesores in the modern world not all of them as potentially useful.
    • I strongly recommend Balayage salon in Lordship lane as everytime I visit, they make me feel very spicial with thier profisionalism and care.   I have been going there for the last 10 years maybe more, and will never exchange them for any other. They are profisional, welcoming and they also always have an offer. I feel like a new woman every time. X
