Nimble Tales - Storytelling and live music for 0-5s, from 17th April

Recommended Posts

Book now for our next term of Nimble Tales classes - back from Monday 17th April (Bank Holiday Monday)!

Nimble Tales are creative, musical storytelling sessions, usually accompanied by cello tunes, ukulele songs, puppets, props and bubbles for 0-5s and their grown-ups, taking place in venues across SE26, SE22, SE15 and SE23. There's no singing along to backing tracks as we use real instruments, our songs include new compositions as well as traditional kids favourites, and sessions feature inventive versions of traditional tales and original stories.

Sessions are usually led by Nimble Tots director and cellist, Becky Dixon, a trained EY music specialist and very experienced storyteller! As well as leading local Nimble Tots classes, you may have come across Becky performing at the Royal Festival Hall Clore Ballroom Space for hundreds of families as part of the Imagine Children's Festival, and also regularly leads storytelling workshops for the Royal Albert Hall.

At a Nimble Tots class, each session lasts c. 40-45 minutes, and every week there is a different story. It's best value if you sign up for a full term of classes (works out ?5.50 a class), but equally you can choose to PAYG (?7 per class) and pop along to individual sessions, or buy a 6-class flexicard, which you can use for any sessions across any number of weeks! Siblings over 1 are ?3, and younger siblings go free.

We'd always advise you to book in advance as we can get pretty busy for some sessions - drop ins are always welcome if we have space, but you can book online anytime up until 8am on the morning of a class, choosing whether to book an individual session or a block

.

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
