CAR TAX increase shock

Thought of changing Range Rover 4 ltr for something economical but still practical, so picked up a 2 ltr jag estate today. The tax is DOUBLE at 520 pounds, twice that it used to be. Did everyone know how much ALL the taxes were going up?

I made a similar mistake a few years ago, and bought a fairly nice-ish car without checking the emissions/tax first. TBH it was pretty stupid of me. Looking at getting some sort of hybrid in the next year or so, I think.

Yep they announced it two or three years ago. Maybe you were asleep at the time. It is also good to check first and there is information with all new cars at the showroom. Perhaps it is time to go electric which is zero road tax (cars under 40k so most except the Tessla) or even join a car club. Surely fully electric is a non-starter unless you have off-street parking?

They reduced it too much when they changed it to emissions based and now thy're trying to recoup.

The new VED regime is bonkers and is neither fish nor fowl. It will change in a year or two I expect. But there again FK where we will go when TM gets in with a bigger majority (not a snipe, just an expectation of a need for additional revenue)
