Kalamiphile
Help. Daughter has electric pump, but it takes her 20-30 minutes to express 50ml, surely there must be a faster machine??Also, baby needs to be given piriton at night and she just squirts it out with her dribble. Daughter has tried using pipette and a syringe. The only time it was vaguely successful was when I hel her slightly tipped downwards and she choked it down!Dont remember having this problem myself so any suggestions to either problem gratefully received xx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15189-best-breast-pump-how-to-give-5-month-old-medicine/ Share on other sites

Kalamiphile
The pump looks impressive, any one selling? Already using syringe, she still spits most out! If you squeeze in small amounts into the cheek, they can'tNurofen syringe is best, for some reason, I have found Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15189-best-breast-pump-how-to-give-5-month-old-medicine/#findComment-399561 Share on other sites
peckhamboy
We had the same problem with our 6 month old, and never found a proper solution. The only reasonably successful method was to tag team it, with one holding her still with her head slightly tipped back and the other using the syringe. If you can get it in the cheek it helps a lot but it's easier said than done, when baby is clamping her mouth shut, shaking her head and sticking her tongue in the way! Good luck... craigy
i have always preferred hand pumps as you can control them better than an electric one, have just the standard avent one...and i too would say put it in a syringe in the cheek.. there is no foolproof method.. Kalamiphile
We have put syringe in cheek, still manages to oush most out with her gummy saliva! My daughter has a hand pump but found that took even longer. What is the avarage length of time to pump and how much shouold you expect? alieh
Re: the pumping amounts, it may not change with a different pump. If I remember correctly, it would take me about that much time and I might get a bit more, like maybe 70 mls? I found I had to pump at the same time every day in order to easily get a decent amount. At other times of day I could put the pump on and not get a drop.I always found Kelly Mom really helpful for pumping information: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/The Kelly Mom site says, for e.g., that a single pumping sessions usually yields 0.5-2 oz, so 50 mL would be on the high end of that range. born&brED
I really liked the medela mini electric - about ?50 I think. Was def quicker than what you quoted - having said that, I seem to remember things going slowly at the beginning and speeding up after a few days. Worth persevering with it! esme
Medela pump is great and can be used with batteries or mains... I have same problem with medicine but find doing it half a dose at a time with a syringe is okay or a spoon is actually fine if you let them choose to open their mouth first Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15189-best-breast-pump-how-to-give-5-month-old-medicine/#findComment-400304 Share on other sites
Fuschia
Pumping for 20-30 mins with the double pump would normally yield from 1-6oz each side Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15189-best-breast-pump-how-to-give-5-month-old-medicine/#findComment-400392 Share on other sites
