If the laptop can power on, then this is a solution to use another live operating system to access the data on the dormant drive.

alternatively the O/P could remove the hard drive and hook it up to another PC via a caddy or external drive unit.

Nonsense ...

Even if the laptop doesn't power up what stops you from removing hard drive ...

Then connecting it as external drive and scanning for data ?.

There is no need for silly solutions that will cost more time than actually needed is it ?!

If it work then you see it come up on the screen if not then your silly solution won't help ..

Or will it ?
