I've been "INVITED" to take part in a census test. I do not want to participate. When theres a census I will fill it in. Why do they need to test it? I have took part before without a test. Who are they testing, the census people or the public? You keep sending letters and knocking on the door like its compulsory to part with all my details at tea-time. I don't give details to strangers on the doorstep. Please GO AWAY. Either its an invite, or compulsory .... Anyway, it will only apply to the legal citizens you have knowledge of anyway, not the unregistered ones who won't fill forms or open the door!
I have now had 3 acquaintances who have been targeted - they have all had several letters, visited by different people at least 3 times. They have run the contact number on the letter to explain that they are not happy to fill in forms etc but are still being harassed. One is a lady in her late 60s, the other has learning difficulties and has limited reading ability, and the other carer of a mentally ill person.

Hello All,

Wow so many questions, i will attempt to answer for you.

1. If you do not want to participate in the census test all you need to do is inform the census officer of a refusel, job done.

2. The 2017 test is about testing new equipment, technology and questions, for example householders now are encourage to go online for the first time and complete.

3. 3 reminders were sent out, and up to five visits are carried out to support those householders to complete the questionnaire. The only way to stop the visits or reminders is to either complete the questionnaire online, or refused to complete.

3. Censor Officers have been dispatched during the evening times and at weekends because that is the most likely time householders will be at home.

4. Sorry to learn you do not open the door to people you dont know, perhaps you could of telephoned the public helpline and inform the call centre you did not want to take part, as unless the census staff are made aware, they will simply return.

5. sorry to learn the public number has been used, and your still getting visits, normally a refuel will stop all visits.

The one good news to share is the test period has now ended, so you will no longer be visited or have furture reminders sent.

Have a good day

Assuming you have proof of being an official census coordinator?

    • I'm London born and bred and have always considered myself streetwise having grown up in Notting hill (pre getrification) and I lived on the border of Harlesden (kensal green) in the 90's  when it was pretty sketchy round there .and I spent much of the 80's and early 90's in downtown New York.. I would walk everywhere at all hours of the day and night and never felt particularly uneasy largely because I was always mindful of my surroundings and walked with 'purpose'. I don't know wether its because I'm now so much older but I don't feel as comfortable as I used to walking round London. Today I was in the West end and I made sure to carry my bag on the opposite arm to that facing the kerb and felt uneasy when I saw people wizzing around on limebikes or scooters close to the kerb..I never got my phone out at all...I never used to feel like this but just recently I've had friends witness phone and bag snatching in central london in broad daylight..apparently it happened so fast in both instances there was nothing anyone could do to help..One phone snatching was during the tube strike 7.30am two guys on bikes grabbed a mans phone..My friend took the victim to a nearby hotel to sit down and recover the hotel said due to the tube strike they had witnessed many duo's of youth out very early on bikes aware that there were more pedestrians around at that time with their phones out trying for Ubers or looking at directions. I would'nt say I feel 'unsafe' I just feel more aware of being a possible target for crime than formerly. I don't know if this is due to being older or due to reading the press.
    • The fact everyone has had a CCTV camera in their pockets for the last 15+ years has done a huge amount to prevent and mitigate random drunken violence.  Thugs can't get away with what they used to anymore.
    • Do you mean that there are only very few trades people and that all of their thousands of happy customers post glowing reviews but most of them have only ever posted once to recommend said trade person on the trade person's own thread?   If so, I agree it's mysterious.
    • Oh now you're coming over all defensive. What happened to the nice Sue, because since the early part of the year your approach seems to have changed and you've become much more challenging. No you have not broken any rules and even if you had why would I involve Admin, that's a ludicrous thing to say.  Take care Sue.
