Hi there,

I'm a new Dad and am posting to see if there is anyone else out there who's had a bad experience at this group? My wife had a terrible time recently, which has had huge knock on effects both with our new born and at home. So I'd really like to hear if you've had any issues and didn't get the care and support you needed at this place as we're going to be taking action and feel that our argument would be made stronger with more people behind us.

I'm not on a witch hunt, I just want to make them aware of the issues that they can cause by not delivering the support that some mothers/families need.

If you don't want to post publicly please PM us, or ask me for my wife's email but feel free to do what you want.

P.s. This message is from me and my wife, her hands are just slightly fuller than mine right now!

Hello,

I went there this morning and had a very positive experience.

Maybe feed back directly to them in the first instance and see how it goes? There is a general number on the southwark site so you don't necessarily have to speak to the person you saw at the clinic.

Its so hard in the early days. I hope things are improving for you all.

Also if your wife hasn't already joined a mums group, the spring babies are still adding new members to WhatsApp - PM me if you would like me to add her. Its mostly chat and advice but people are starting to meet up more now too.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I went awhile ago on the advice of our HV to see if my daughter had tongue tie, was strongly signposted to that particular group as the tongue tie specialist would be there - except she wasn't and the ladies there were unable to help. The other new mum attending had also been advised to go by HV for tongue tie diagnosis, so disappointment all round!

They recommended going to Crawford children's centre in Camberwell, and their support and advice was fab. So I'd maybe try and find a different session if still needed. There's a Facebook page with details of when/where the different groups are - Lambeth & Southwark Breastfeeding Group

Thanks convex, we are going to feedback to them directly, I just wanted to get a feel for how others have been treated and am genuinely pleased to hear you had a good experience as it hopefully means we were a one off. Thanks for sharing.

I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. It is such a Shame as the Peckham bf cafe had a 10 year history of being The place to go. It was in the last 18 months under gone a change, when Kings had a reorganisation & pulled all their specialist midwives and no longer provide community support. It has I believe been taken on by the council. Guys & St Thomas provide specialist support in their patch and increased this see https://www.facebook.com/Lambethmilkspots/

They update daily.

But do feedback as it's so important those early bf problems get treated with the urgency. Feedback always helps & gives support to how needed this service is.

    • It wasn't an antique and bric-a-bac shop but an antique market with a number of different traders, the cafe supported all the dealers in bringing in custom, and was good enough to generate trade for them. It was Rodney Franklin's and his partners enterprise, he previously had an antique shop in Queenstown Road in Battersea. His late wife ran the cafe (she was a very fine actress, it was a 'resting' job).  It was on the corner of a junction on the left as you head towards Camberwell. And almost opposite, if memory serves at all, an MFI style furniture outlet.
    • i used to go there in the late 80's and '90s (?) the food was served cafeteria style and there was limited choice, but what there was alays tasted amazing!  The garden was an absolute paradise, you could sit in it to lunch in the summer!  i've tried to locate its site but Walworth Road has changed so much since then - does anyone remember the house number?
    • This is very true. For some people, not even just the elderly, their pet/s may be their most important companion.
    • Be thankful for the NHS. This is the price to treat a dog or cat. Imagine what it might be to treat a human being with cancer
