social cycle ride 10am Saturday May 27th

Recommended Posts

Peckham to The Tower but letting you out again afterwards.

The ride starts in Peckham Square which is the paved space between the Pulse and the library (SE15 5JR. To be more precise people seem to sit and wait for each other in the sunshine, sitting on the slightly curved metal bench at the food of the wide shallow steps from the Arch.

After the more strenuous effort last Saturday this is a return to the usual easy-paced ride on mostly quiet roads, paths or cycle tracks. Out via Burgess Park and Walworth Green Link to New Kent Road and the Elephant.

Bike Trainers will recognise the next bit around the E&C bypass and then to Blackfriars Road and up to the eponymous bridge, turn left (very sharp turn) onto the Embankment and the E-W Superhighway. There are some more bends and then follow the route east to the Tower.

Stop for a break at the Tower, then continue to Cable St and the start of CS3, south to Hermitage Riverside Memorial Garden and St Katherine's Docks. Back via Tower Bridge, Bermondsey Spa Gardens, Willow Walk and the Canal Path.

10 miles, no hills (unless you count Tower Hill). Route at https://goo.gl/BtzUq6. To contact Bruce text 07729 279 945

    • No one is arguing that people should cycle without lights or reflectors. Obviously they should. It is also a legal requirement. But the colour of someone’s clothing? Is it ok to wear navy? What about green? What shade? At what point should we have ‘no reason for sympathy’ if they’re in a collision?
    • Found it but cannot contact owner as no email or message on it. e*****@icloud.com   please let me know if you’ve recently lost an Apple Watch SE
    • What a passionate thread this is. I have worked in cycling for years, am a cyclist, a driver, use public transport etc. Driving last night with my two young kids, who also cycle, we made the same observations. It was the kids who first asked me why are most cyclists wearing full black and no lights. We then played a game who can spot all the cyclists, and count those with lights and those without. This teaches them to look out for them but also not to put themselves in a position where we have to strain to find them.
    • On the plus side showers are warm down - for now 😆
