Recommendation for Smile Moves removal company

Recommended Posts

I wanted to post on here about the removal company I used to move house last week, as they came recommended on this forum, and I was so pleased with their service.

I got quotes from 5 different companies and went with Smile Moves as they were most competitively priced. They packed up our two bed flat, and moved us from Hither Green to East Dulwich on the hottest day of the year so far.

The team of three (led by Simon, whose company it is) were absolutely brilliant. They packed all our stuff the day before we were due to compete the sale/purchase. They were really friendly and efficient. They packed us up in about 3 hours (leaving out essentials we needed for overnight), whilst we went to the pub for dinner - the most relaxed packing experience ever! It was absolutely worth the extra money to get them to pack for us. We have a little boy so it meant not living out of boxes for weeks, and all packaging materials are included and I know from experience the enormous amount of boxes you need and how much they cost...so all in all I reckon the price isn't much different and the stress is much more manageable!

The next day they arrived early and loaded the van with all our stuff (two massive sofas fridge freezer, washing machine, etc. all included) and we were packed up, cleaned (I did that) and out by 12.30.

They moved everything into our new house, asking me where I wanted everything and moving things if I changed my mind! They even plumbed the washing machine in for me. They put the beds/cots down and up again.

They barely stopped all day and worked so hard to make the experience as stress free as possible. I actually quite enjoyed the day!

Simon gave me advice on how the logistics of selling/purchasing on the same day works and I felt in very capable hands. I was moving us by myself as my partner needed to work, it was totally manageable - he came home to a new place already looking homely!

Simon then came and picked up the empty old boxes from us once we were unpacked.

All in all, a great service and a really competitive price. Would highly recommend.

    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
    • Well according to a newspaper article, Gail’s is opening 10 shops in London,,, yup Dulwich is named 10/5 I seem to recall with others in London opening at 7 am…!, Guess that is to capture workers coming off all night shift. Offering free mince pies until they run out.. So very sad to hear about Romeo Jones… been a customer since the opening, any idea where Patrick has gone or details… please pm me.    What is going to be in its place…. Will be around in Jan…umm village is changing….
    • interesting the police said "the car was in demand at the moment" what make/model is that?
    • Just be careful to know exactly what they cover and the limits. i use Many Pets and Medivet, as I think one of the vets is exceptionally good. Some of the NHV are, but I’ve had a couple I’ve not liked at all.  I need consistency and to feel that they actually care more about the animals than the money.
