David Davis says some concrete progress has been made today. Barnier seems to disagree - look at this report and the picture, I think Davis has got to him - he's furious.

Davies also mentioned that 'its only through flexibility and imagination that we'll achieve a deal'. There isn't time nor place for imagination, it's a not a kids story. This quote really pees me off as we're already a year in and we're still talking about creative thinking. I know this was never going to be easy and I know the government never had a plan, but this still rubs me up the wrong way. I think today's frosty exchanges are showing the real 'smooth Brexit transition'. Grrrrr.

Basically it goes like this. The Tory Brexiteers want a deal that keeps all the beneifits of being in the single market and customs union, without having to be be members of or pay for access to it. The EU have rightly told them they are in la la land. This has been the attitude of the government brexit supporters since even before the referendum. At what point do they wake up and realise that we are no longer an Empire that rules half the world. Meanwhile, the pound continues to fall, prices continue to rise and economic growth and investment continue to contract.

Just on Japan. May is also wishful thinking if she expects to get a quickie trade deal with Japan. Jappan's focus is on sucuring their own EU trade deal right now, and rightly so, as a market of 500 million trumps a market of 68 million. Japanese companies will not keep car plants in the UK if we have no access to the single market and customs union. We all know that Nissan were promised access as part of those secret talks to keep their plant in the UK. So that seems to be a scandal waiting to hit the **** fan, especially if the government offered to offset tariffs in the event of a no deal on the single market. The cost of offsetting car exports subject to WTO tariffs would be ?3-4bn annually. ?20bn of our annual exports are in cars and WTO tariffs range from 10%-20% depending on type of vehicle, engine size, fuel type etc.

Oddly even though I find his views utterly at odds with my own, I have a bit of respect for the fact that he's prepared to be open and honest about his beliefs. He's not lying, changing them to be 'right on' or otherwise trying to pretend they don't exist. That is unusual for a politician.

Some peoples beliefs do evolve though - as they gain

life experience and hear other viewpoints.

I completely agree, but I do find certain politicians seem to evolve their views about as often as it takes for them to appeal to a new cross section of voters - they must be terribly open minded :-)

When was the last time a senior politican made such a public statement of their personal beliefs, bound to ruffle feathers? I'm sure there are several very Catholic MPs, who'd think better of it....

I saw two men having a qucik kiss in Portugal last week I didn't find it erotic, nor offensive. I just thought how far we have come in my life time, particularly as we were in a catholic country, and nobody batted an eyelid. I don't find Rees Mogg erotic either, but whilst saying he is offensive is a little strong, I would hate to think that we could become less tolerant.

Everytime one of these religious morons opens their mouth in this way I fear for an upsurge in homophobic attacks. Faith schools (funded by our taxes) are exempt (or at least the ones I have taught in appear to be as it was not on the schemes of work) from instructing students in LGBT issues in the Equality section of Citizenship or PSHE.

I feel really sorry for any young person in a faith school who realises he/she is gay because there will be NO support

It's going to be about how Brexit's going but nobody's sure what attitude she's going to show - some think she may use it to reassure Tory hardliners worried she's slipping, others suspect she's going to offer a conciliatory attitude to the EU. We shall see.
