Sky News were asking Theresa May about Las Vegas this morning so they decided to ask about Boris too - and she expected it. His speech has been seen by No10. She didn't really answer about whether he's sackable or unsackable. It's an almost impossible question and she did well to dodge it.

Boris is a disgrace. there are plenty of politicians whose views I disagree with, but who I still respect. Boris however, believes in absolutely nothing, except Boris. The fact that he is still in such a prominent position just shows how broken our political culture has become. A man so unprincipled should have vanished from the political mainstream long ago.

Why does she have to dodge it? All she has to say is that no one is unsackable...including her.

If she was asked why he hasn't been sacked, then that's a different question which she no doubt will dodge, as she clearly has no power within her Cabinet to do so...

Had Waters got in then it would've been the end of UKIP. Bolton however was Farage's man, and Aaron Banks is apparently now going to keep funding UKIP. They see themselves as some sort of Brexit watchdog, and if Brexit doesn't go to (their) plan, which it won't, they could easily get back their original core support...

I think you are right Red devil. The return of Aaron Banks signals the unhappiness at negotiations from Farage and the first steps towards doing something about it. I really do think this whole brexit think is going to end up in some kind of political civil war, within the two main parties as much as between all parties. And it will go on for a decade at least. I do not understand the hard brexiteers. They seem intent in causing as much chaos as possible, in the short term at least. Fears of 70's style socialism are the least of the country's worries right now.

I suspect opinion will be divided as to whether there was any content, and whether what there was counts as "OK".

Precious little on Brexit, except the subtle shift of focus - they're all diligently planning for failure now, presumably because the other sort's not gone too well. The rest, apart from the apology for the disastrous election, seemed cut and pasted from her first speech as PM last year. Which, you'll remember, was all about helping the 'just about managing' buy houses, get decent jobs and so on, about which we've heard nothing till this punctuated re-run.

The cough was probably helpful. It was difficult not to feel a little sympathy, despite the dutiful applause of her flapping crowd of dentured groupies, and that possibly made it all sound more sincere than back then. But the proverb about words and deeds still seems relevant.

Yes I agree Burbage, nothing of any real content there, just the same empty promises since she became PM on helping the many while doing absolutely nothing to do so.

Having said that, there have been some indications that they are getting the message that austerity has gone too far and that they are losing the young over issues like housing. The relaxing of some pay caps. The announcment that UC claimants will be able to get advance payments immidiately after being deaf to the issues since it was introduced. I suspect they realised that without that concession (essentially the reintroduction of the crisis loans they abolished) that roll out of UC would have sent food bank use through the roof (beyond the ability of exisiting food banks to cope). And they have also announced that those with lifelong disabilities and conditions that won't improve will no longer have to go through Work Capability Assessments. There are expected to be moves to let councils build homes again (in some rationed form) - something the Tories have bitterly opposed for three decades. And they have found another ?10bn for help to buy from that magic money tree.

All of this is too little too late. The people hit hardest by Tory policies are not going to forget what things like Welfare reform have put them through.

May's problem is that she is at the mercy some not very nice right wing Tory troublemakers, and those trouble makers will destroy the Tory Party - not least because they refuse to change with public mood.

I still half imagine someone poisoning her water, bribing Lee Nelson, and loosening the F and E, that's not true however as she seems to have tweeted a picture of loads of cough medicine in her case.

Alastair Campbell claims Doctors should have sorted that (and did for TB).
