Now I'm thinking a meteor - or aliens!

Anyone know what this could've been? Peering out of my kitchen window at the evening sky (around 9::50pm/ish) and I spot this orange streak in the sky, slooowly 'falling' downward and further away into the distance. Lasted about a minute before disappearing out of sight and then reappearing a lot smaller, and to be honest with you, I have no idea what I saw! Any possible explanations would be greatly appreciated.

Almost, it's Rayleigh scattering. It's what makes the sky blue but red at night.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rayleigh_scattering

More blue light gets scattered during the day as there is a shorter path for the light to traverse. At dusk the light travel through a longer path and all the blue light gets scattered away leaving mostly red.

Probably a vapour trail high in the sky and suffering the effects of the above scattering and looking orange.

Fireball meteor. If the second one was following the same line, it's the same meteor possibly after fragmenting. Lucky to see it.

Right? I must sound like such a loony, lol! Turns out the 'bomb' noises came from a Qatar Cargo plane going from Houston to Liege (found that out thanks to another kind forum-er!)

Yes.

I saw one last year while sitting in my garden :)

Possibly - not a meteor then though!

I was thinking more prosaically it might have been a drone catching the sunlight, or a Chinese fire balloon?

They’ve now accepted they can’t sustain it, so they’re beginning to highlight the local independent bakeries whose products they actually sell. The business is essentially a courier model running on a slim margin.
    • Another sparrow hawk visor to our cherry tree at the weekend.  Our robin survived, but we may be a sparrow down.     any thoughts on bird feeders & bird baths with the current bird flu?  I try to wash out the bird bath most days when at home, but not on the 3 days in a row that I’m in the office & the bird feeders rather less regularly. Would it be better not to have at all (as my partner thinks)?
    • OOOPS. My daughter just had to pay a five pound fine. I hadn't put a stamp on it. I remember wondering whether to use a  first or second class stamp,  and clearly when I posted it I still hadn't decided (but sadly didn't notice). I feel really bad for suspecting a postie might have  opened it.  Sorry posties.
